DUTIES:
An employee in this class is responsible for the supervision of operations on a shift with staff in multiple locations performing advanced life support at the Paramedic level. The employee is responsible for the supervising and participating in the maintenance and operation of advanced lifesaving equipment and providing Paramedic level of life support and medical emergency treatment as needed. Work includes assuring that quality emergency patient care standards are in place, proper equipment and treatment are available and sound judgment and treatment decisions are made. Work includes training and orienting new staff, work assignments, and overseeing proper staffing, inventory of medical supplies and operation and maintenance of vehicles and equipment. Work is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions, extremes in temperatures, noise, vibrations, hazards associated with emergency medical work. The employee is exposed to human blood and is subject to the OSHA requirements on blood borne pathogens. Work is performed under general supervision and is evaluated through conferences, observation, station and incident operations, and public feedback
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from high school and considerable experience in providing paramedic level emergency medical services and serve as field training officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
3 years as a Paramedic
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Must be able to perform very heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects.
Must possess the visual acuity to operate mobile equipment, monitor work site progress, and use measurement devices.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license and Emergency Vehicle Driver certification.
Certification by the State as a Paramedic
